Biography
Lorrina M. Duffy, Esq. is the founder and principal attorney at QDRO Authority, A Professional Corporation. Lorrina’s practice focuses exclusively on drafting, reviewing and issuing opinions on domestic relations orders dividing retirement benefits in legal separation and divorce proceedings. She is a recurrent family law court appointed expert on retirement benefits division orders.
Lorrina is a nationally recognized expert in the area of retirement benefits division orders in family law matters. Her expertise encompasses private and public defined benefit pension plans and defined contribution 401(k) type plans, Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), federal employee and military retirement plans, and nonqualified retirement plans. Lorrina is a frequent speaker for family law groups, bar associations, and local to national continuing legal education (CLE) providers.
Lorrina obtained her Bachelors of Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz where she double majored in Latin American/Latino Studies and American Studies. After taking some time off between her studies, and working at a Los Angeles nonprofit organization and then teaching English in China, Lorrina graduated with her Juris Doctorate from the University of California, College of the Law San Francisco (fka Hastings College of the Law).
Prior to becoming a QDRO Expert, Lorrina was an attorney with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA). At LAFLA, Lorrina assisted victims and survivors of domestic violence with restraining orders, custody orders and divorces. Lorrina also represented low-income homeowners losing their homes based on fraud, financial elder abuse, and violations of federal law.
As a former legal services attorney, Lorrina strongly believes in integrating pro bono services into her law practice. She volunteers as a QDRO attorney for the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law, a non-profit which provides free legal services for low-income families in turmoil. Lorrina previously was on the Board of Directors for the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law and chaired its Membership Committee. Lorrina also volunteers her QDRO services to other legal aid organizations in Los Angeles.
Lorrina is a member of the “QDRONES”, a national study group comprised of QDRO attorneys, plan attorneys and pension valuation experts.
Lorrina served as President of the Latina Lawyers Bar Association (LLBA) from 2019 – 2021. The Latina Lawyers Bar Association is the nation’s only bar association dedicated exclusively to Latina lawyers. The LLBA provides a community of support together with resources and mentorship to Latinas in every stage of their legal career so that they can achieve their greatest potential. Prior to Lorrina’s presidency, Lorrina served on LLBA’s Executive Committee as Treasurer, President Elect, and Immediate Past President. Lorrina also served on LLBA’s Advisory Board Committee, Awards & Scholarship Dinner Planning Committee, Education and Outreach Committee, Finance Committee, and Membership Committee.
Currently, Lorrina is a Governor on the Board of Directors for California Women Lawyers (CWL) and serves as the 2nd Vice President. CWL promotes the advancement of women in the legal profession and is an active advocate for the concerns of women in society. Lorrina serves on the Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion (DEBI) Committee and the Membership Committee, and she was previously Secretary for CWL.
